 Hi everyone
We have 2 spots left for Houou.
Upon contacting Julian who's been there recently and several times, I realized that the hike is far less technical than I thought. Also we could stop at the second summit, which means that it would be 2.5 hours shorter (map time) and accessible to more people.
We're planning to rent a car for around 12,000 yen
If you thought about joining and decided against it because of the original map time, think about it again.
New deadline for application: Tuesday 23, 10 PM.

Hi everyone.
I'm planning a 1.5-day trip to the Southern Alps on April 27-28. Deadline for sign-up is Tuesday 16.
We will go to 薬師岳 (2780m) and 観音岳 (2840m) and if time allows also 地蔵岳(2764m) the 3 summits forming what is called 鳳凰三山 registered as one of the 百名山 (if that means anything to you, not really to me).
The trail is almost entirely along a ridge facing Kita-dake and Aino-dake, if the weather allows we should have fantastic views of those mountains.
Recent posts of the trail can be found easily on yamareco (check the pictures)
http://www.yamareco.com/modules/yamareco/detail-279891.html
http://www.yamareco.com/modules/yamareco/detail-280647.html
also posts from GW last year:
http://www.yamareco.com/modules/yamareco/detail-188097.html
Some details still need to be figured out but the plan is as follows:
April 27th
Leave Tokyo around 11AM/12PM
Meet at Kofu station at 2PM
Rent a car and get to Yashajin / 夜叉神 (1380m) around 3 PM
Hike to Yashajin pass (1790m, map time 1 hour) and pitch tent (alternatively stay at the hut)
Hike to 高谷山 (1842m) and go back to the camp site
Total map time: 1:50
April 28th
Wake up early and see the rising sun, leave the tent as it is and start hiking around 5AM.
Campsite (1790m)-> 薬師岳(2780m) 6:00
薬師岳 -> 観音岳(2840m) 0:45
観音岳 -> 地蔵岳(2764m) 1:20
Go back via the same itinerary
地蔵岳 -> 観音岳 1:30
観音岳 -> 薬師岳 0:30
薬師岳 -> Campsite 3:10
Campsite -> car 0:40
Total map time: 13:55 (depending on weather and snow conditions we should do it in 9 to 11 hours)
Total distance around 25 km
On the way back to Kofu station we'll drop by an onsen.
Although not technical the hike is extremely long on day2 with possibly snow and ice on some parts of the trail.
Required equipment: Winter hiking gears including waterproof / windproof jacket, down jacket etc., crampons, headlight, tent (I have room for only 1 person in mine) sleeping bag and mat, warm clothes. Driving license
Food: dinner, breakfast, lunch and snacks. Water: There's a water point about 4:30 hours from the campsite which we'll pass twice so 2L should be enough.
Participants: max 3 strong hikers with experience of 10-hour hike, snow conditions, overnight stay etc.
For this hike I can only accept people who I hiked with already (you can always join on Sunday 14 or Sunday 21)
Deadline: Tuesday 16 -> we need to book the rental car and campsite
Contact: Sébastien
Required information: If you want to sign up to this event and I don't know you already let me know your cell phone number, email address and hiking experience.
 Full Zao traverse, this coming Sunday – Monday (start of Golden Week holiday).
This is going to be a tough, fast-paced backpacking trip on snow, so you need to be in good shape. You also need to have experience with snow, crampons, and preferably ice axe. If the going is too tough, we can bail out at Zao summit on the cableway on Monday.

You gotta be prepared for cold down to -20 C with 60 km/h winds, as well as bright sun, as mountain weather can change quickly and unexpectedly.
As always, IAC members are welcome to stay over my place in Sendai before the trip. After the trip, Tokyo people will probably want to head straight back from Shiroishi-Zao station on the Tohoku Shinkansen.

 Hi guys
The hike to Oyama is postponed to Thursday (May 2nd).
Persons interested may contact me by tomorrow (May 1st) 8 PM
Seb
--------------------
Hi guys
2 things in this e-mail.
1) The trip to Houou on April 28/29 is cancelled due to complicated logistics (only 1 driver, only 2 participants) I'll try to organize again and be more successful at it.
2) Hike at Ooyama on May 1st, see details below:
I plan to go to Ooyama from Hinata via Ninosawa no gashira and Ume no ki ridge to Yabitsu pass. You can always look on the yama to kogen map, you won't find that trail. Indeed it is a minor one with やせ尾根 and we'll probably be the only human begins on this part of the mountain (but we'll meet a lot of people at the summit)
We'll go down to Yabitsu pass via another minor ridge (also not to be found on the yama to kogen map)
The trail is described here:
http://www.yamareco.com/modules/yamareco/detail-279038.html
If you have 東丹沢登山詳細図 it corresponds to the following small trails: 49, 47, second half of 48, 61 and 75.
The total distance is about 11 km, so about half the usual but this hike is not fit for beginners.
Max number of participants: 4
Meeting point: Odakyu Isehara station at 9:35 (bus leaves at 9:45 and reaches at 10:06)
Equipment: hiking gears, headlight
Deadline for sign-up: Monday 29, 10:00 PM
Contact: Sébastien

 Dear Members,
Here's a easy-intermediate hiking plan to Mt Azegamaru(畔が丸) on West Tanzawa Area.
Mountain's height is 1293m and elevation gain is 850m, about 3 hours hike to the top and another 2.5 hours to go down. The trail is not so steep, it would be a good day exercise.
The point is, there is no view from the top(!) but beautiful quiet forest with tender light of new green leaves, and we will visit 2 huge water falls on the way back.
The bus to the trailhead leaves Odakyu Line Shin-Matsuda station 8:25; train time is Shinjuku 6:51 Odakyu Line 急行(Express) train bouds for Odawara, arrives Shin-Matsuda at 8:14.
We should meet at Shinjuku station before the train leave, or Shin-Matsuda station.
Cancellation; before the day if the forecast for Odawara shows an umbrella mark or chance of rain is worse than 50%, the trip will be cancelled. When the trip is cancelled, I can change it to indoor climbing lesson if you want.
If interested in, please mail me back or send a message to Tomohiro.
Thanks,
Tomohiro Kanezaki

 Dear Members,
I will go climbing on May 4th but I haven't decided where...
If the weather is OK, I'm thinking of outdoor rock on Saitama or Okutama, those can be climbed even you're just beginner. If the weather is no good, will be an indoor climbing gym.
Is any body interested in going climbing? In any level is welcome.
If interested in, please mail me back or send a message to Tomohiro.
Thanks.

 Hi guys
I failed to go in April due to strong wind and snow forecast so this is another attempt to get to Nyoho while there may still be some snow left at the top.
Below is a revised version of the plan I posted last time.
I plan to go to Nyohosan in Nikko on Saturday 05/18
Nyohosan is 2,483m high and there might still be snow towards the top.
The plan is as follows
1) Meet in Kitasenju or directly in the train (Tobu Skytree line leaving Kitasenju 6:31)
NB: this is the only suitable train
2) Get off at Nikko station at 8:25
3) ride the first bus to Nishisandou (8:30 or 8:35)
4) Hike to Nyohosan
5) Walk / ride a bus back to Nikko station and ride the train home.
Bus schedule available here: http://www.tobu-bus.com/pc/area/pdf/nikko_pamph_201303.pdf
The route follows this itinerary: http://www.yamareco.com/modules/yamareco/detail-284957.html
It is p11 of 山と高原地図13日光
Nishisandou -> Kuroiwa 4:30
Kuroiwa -> Nyohosan 2:10
We go back the same way
Nyohosan -> Kuroiwa 1:25
Kuroiwa -> Nishisandou 2:40
Total map time: 10:45
Total distance about 20/22 km
Elevation change about 2000m
Deadline for sign-up Wednesday 15
Participants: 3 experienced hikers
Material: Usual hiking gears, windproof and waterproof jacket, food, water, crampons, headlight
Cancellation policy: In case chances of rain exceed 40% on Saturday night
